Portfolio Grade 10
UNIT 1: COMPUTER HARDWARE
Assignment 1: PC Custom Design
The purpose of this assignment was to discover the various parts and the specs of each part that make a computer. We also had to organize them into Input, Output, Storage, Memory or Processing classes. We made groups of 4 to complete the various pieces of hardware of the computer. I did the Monitor, Sound card, Case, and Power Supply. This assignment tested us on our teamwork skill since you had to work together to get all the parts completed and making sure you got the most important specs. I liked how we were in groups since we could talk whether this spec was important or not and look over our group members work. Overall with some minor problems, I would give the success outcome of this assignment a 4 out of 5.

Assignment 2: DIY Assignment
The purpose of this assignment was to discover how to install or repair hardware of a computer. Previously we opened the computer and took out different parts (CPU, RAM, etc.), and now we explored how to remove/repair other parts that we didn't do in the PC Maintainance assignment. This assignment was induvidual and was ok overall. The success outcome of this assignment would be 3 out of 5.

Assignment 3: PC Maintainance
This assignment was to open up the computer and learn about the various internal and external parts. Not only that, but we also looked into the safety hazards and precautions that are needed to be considered when working with computers. We took in-depth looks into the main parts of the computer. Some parts include CPU, RAM/DIMM, PCI/ISA slots, Hard drive, CD Drive and etc. We also made some sketches on the motherboard and the external connections of the computer. Another thing we learnt was types of connectors. There were serial and paralell connectors which are male for serial and female for paralell. Furthermore we learned what connects into what, For example, the VGA port connects your computer and the audio ports can connect speakers, microphones or headphones. This assignment was very hands on and I learned a lot so the Success Outcome of this assignment was 4 out of 5.

Internet 101
This assignment was to discover the origins of the internet like who created it and the difference between the World Wide Web and the Internet. We also found out some information regarding internet usage in differnet countries. We also looked into the anotomy of the URL Code. The Protocol, domain and directories were a few that we went into detail with. The outcome of this assignment was very bad, being away a couple of days made it more harder. I will give this a 2 out of 5

PC DESIGN
This assignment was to create a computer network from scratch using 5 wired components, 3 wireless components, 1 printer and a router and a switch. These components will make a basic network (more specifically a LAN network). Firstly we had to "buy" our supplies for the network. The NIC cards were complusary to buy since they provided connection between the network and the node. Then we had to buy other components like the print server which had to be connected to the printer so that every computer in the network can use one printer. After that we had to visual create our network using proper ethernet cable to show the connection between the node and the network. Since this assignment was so creative, The success outcome was 4 out of 5.

CYBER SAFETY
This assignment taught us the problem of cyber theft, and cyber safety. People use the internet to gather personal information and then use that to do steal money and most attempts are for kidnapping young children. The internet has become a easy target for such attempts since it is a basic need in our lives. We looked at real life senarios and how serious this issue really is. We also had to make a cyber safety poster, which addressed the need to be careful on the internet. I would give the success rate of this assignment 3.5 out of 4.

LOGIC GATES
In digital circuits we learned about logic gates and the inputs and outputs for each. The AND, OR, XOR are common gates and when fused with the NOT gate they become NAND, NOR and XNOR. These gates now have the opposite outputs that they have before. We also did a lab where were given 4 logic chips and were asked to use our breadboard to find out the logic gate inside. The assignment was very easy since we only had to look for high or low and finding out which gates was what came naturally. The one thing that threw me off was to memorise the Truth tables, there were so many 1's and 0's that it was hard to distinguish between gates. I then started to name the gates (like the all or any gate for the OR gate) and then I started to use that to help me define the gates. The success outcome of this assignment is a 4.5 out of 5.

LOGIC PROBE LAB
In this lab, we had to follow a schematic diagram to wire a logic probe. We receieved the breadboard and all of our components and then we began. The making this circuit was very easy and but there is some things that I learned from other assignments that would have helped me tremendously. I burned out a LED and my circuit was alternating between working find and failing to flash. Since of all the confusion and fuss about something that was very easy in the first place,I would give myself a 2.5 out of 5

LED FLASHER CIRCUIT
This lab was by far the hardest and took up most of the time. The purpose was to arrange LED's in a pattern on the breadboard and then make then flash alternativily. At first, the Schematic diagram provided was very hard to understand but eventually, I got it. Now when that was finished wiring the LED's was very complicated. I had to get help from a friends with game that 'Eureka" moment. After learning the proper way to wire a LED, I finished my design perfectly. Then I went around to help others who were going through the same probelms as me. Despite the help from my friends, I would give my success rate 1.5 out of 5.

UNIT 4: COMPUTER PROGRAMING
ASSIGNMENT 1: Pratice Programing.
This assignment was just practice of various turing commands. We first learned about the put (output) feature of the program which was the basis of outputing text in your program. From there, we learned about numbers and how to do calucation to yeild a specfic amount of decimal places. Learning about outputs, we then learned about inputs which were a tiny bit harder; it required many steps. You first had to define the variable using string for text, int for a number and real for a number with decimals, then you had to put what you wanted to say to the user for the input then put your get statement. After that you could put some processesing information was if statements. It sets up some parameters so the if the input is specified in the if statement then it would process the information and output a certain statement. This assignment was very fun and useful (for future programming assignments) but I was kind of confused when it came to the decimal places. The command was confusing and could have used some more explaining. I will give this assignment a 4 out of 5.
ASSIGNMENT 2: Course Calculator
This assignment was basic and used the commands we learned in our pratice assignment. We had to make a average calculator that gave the average for all 8 courses. We had to write our pseudo code to explain what our program would do so that programming would be easier. The assignment asked for many input statements so I had to create and manage my variables. The last part gave me the most problems. We also had to display the letter grade for the average and then loop back to the beginning of the program. Creating the programming for the letter grades were hard since I had to use code that I wasn't fully aware of (and, or statements) and the looping went horribly. At that time I didn't know about exit statements and how they can take you out of the loop so I stuck in my loop. Nevertheless, i had much fun with this program so I will give myself a 4 out of 5.
ASSIGNMENT 3: SKYLINE
This assignment was by far the most fun assignment (excluding interfacing). We had to make a skyline and then put a an animation it. Making the building took some time as you had to completely understand the code in order ot place your building in the right place. When that was done, the animation took very, very long but it was worth it. I had to clear the screen multiple times to put the animation in a new place and then copy my building too. I created a UFO and a missle, just before the missle hits the UFO it stops and the missle continues on while the UFO continues on. This assignment was fun so would give my self a 4 out of 5.
FINAL EVALUATION : INTERFACING
Our final evaluation was to make a quiz that tests the user on a topic of the course or the whole course itself but also using our breadboards for the program. Firstly, i had to plan out what I was going to do by making my Pesudo code, flow charts and my screenshots. Once that was done the programming began. I choose to add a buttons to my program (at the beginning) to make inputs slightly easier. I then realized that to put button in my whole program would have been too time consuming so I scrapped the idea. Once the bulk of the program was done, I started to work on my interfacing. We learned about how to wire our breadboard and were given the required parts to complete the circuit. I then hooked it up to my computer and did some test runs and my circuit was responding well. Finally I added my parallelput statements in my quiz to specify wrong and right answers and it went perfectly. Since I am so happy about the outcome of this assignment. I will give myself a 5 out of 5.
